Selecting the Right Double-Sided Number Plate Tape

When it comes to applying double-sided number plate tape, choosing the right product is crucial for ensuring a secure bond. Look for tapes that are specifically designed for automotive use, as these tend to offer better adhesion and durability. Many of these tapes are weather-resistant and can withstand various environmental conditions, making them suitable for outdoor applications.

Before purchasing, consider the thickness of the tape. A thicker tape may provide more cushion and better shock absorption, which can be beneficial for number plates that experience vibrations while driving. Additionally, check the weight capacity of the tape to ensure it can hold your number plate securely over time.

Preparing the Surface for Application

Proper surface preparation is essential for achieving a strong bond with double-sided tape. Start by cleaning the area where the tape will be applied; this includes both the back of the number plate and the mounting surface on the vehicle. Use isopropyl alcohol or a similar cleaner to remove dirt, grease, and any old adhesive residues.

Backing Sealed Cell PE (Polyethylene base) substrate foam
Glue Type Acrylic acid-based product solution
Release Liner Ocean-hued/Vermilion/Deep Fresh Green for choice
Tape Length 10m long long, 33m
Available thickness measurement 0.5mm unit to 3mm unit
Width Options 6mm unit, 12mm unit, 24mm unit

After cleaning, make sure the surface is completely dry before applying the tape. Moisture can interfere with the adhesive’s ability to bond effectively. If possible, avoid applying tape in extremely cold or wet conditions, as these factors can also affect adhesion.

Applying the Tape Correctly

To apply the double-sided number plate tape, cut the tape to the desired length, ensuring it fits the dimensions of your number plate. Apply the tape evenly across the back of the plate, pressing firmly to remove any air bubbles. Make sure to leave space around the edges to prevent peeling and ensure a solid grip.

Once the tape is in place, peel off the backing and carefully position the number plate onto the mounting surface. Press down firmly and hold for several seconds to allow the adhesive to start bonding. It’s advisable to avoid moving the plate after it has been placed, as this can weaken the bond and cause the tape to lose its effectiveness.
