EPDM Self Adhesive Tape

  • Common size: 2-20 mm thickness, custom slit width
  • Color: Black EPDM foam with protected adhesive side
  • Material: Closed-cell EPDM foam carrier
  • Adhesive: One-sided pressure sensitive backing
  • Liner: Peel-off paper or film release liner
  • Use: Sealing, cushioning, gap filling

Both Side Tape Company is a manufacturer of EPDM Self Adhesive Tape for one-sided sealing, cushioning and controlled gap-filling work. This compressible sealing strip combines closed-cell EPDM foam, a pre-applied adhesive layer and a removable liner, making it easier to install by hand without liquid glue or double-sided mounting tape. For dependable bonding, the surface should be cleaned, pressed firmly and checked after 24-72 hours before batch installation.

Product Overview

EPDM Self Adhesive Tape is used where the adhesive only needs to hold the strip in place while the foam creates the seal through compression. It is a practical choice for frames, covers, panels and enclosure gaps that need a clean one-sided installation. It should not be treated as a heavy-duty mounting tape; its main role is positioning, sealing support and controlled compression.

The tape can be supplied in rolls, narrow slit widths or cut lengths for repeated assembly work. Typical foam thickness ranges from 2 mm to 20 mm, allowing engineers to select a thin strip for narrow panel edges or a thicker grade for larger sealing gaps. Width tolerance is commonly controlled around +/-0.5 mm to +/-1.0 mm depending on slit width, which helps long strips sit neatly on metal frames, cabinet doors and inspection covers.

Good installation starts before the liner is removed. The strip should be aligned first, then the liner can be peeled back gradually. Early exposure, finger contact or dust on the adhesive side can reduce wet-out and create weak edges. For long sealing paths, pressing from one end to the other with a hand roller helps remove air channels and improves contact along corners and cut ends.

Benefits

  • Quick manual installation with a peel-off liner and one adhesive side.
  • Holds the EPDM strip in position while compression forms the seal.
  • Cleaner to apply than liquid adhesive on cabinets, panels and enclosure edges.
  • Closed-cell foam helps seal against dust, air and light water splash.
  • Typical 180-degree peel adhesion can reach >=5 N/cm on clean stainless steel, painted metal or glass after dwell.
  • Thickness and slit width can be selected according to gap size and compression needs.
  • 24-72 hour observation helps check edge lifting, residue behavior and adhesion build.
  • Suitable for repeatable production work when surface cleaning, pressure and temperature are controlled.

How should EPDM Self Adhesive Tape be applied for stable adhesion after manual installation?

Apply the tape to a clean, dry and firm surface. Oil, dust, water vapor, release agent or powdery coating can prevent the adhesive from making full contact, which may later appear as edge lifting or partial detachment. Recommended installation temperature is typically 5 C-35 C, with dry room-temperature conditions preferred. After alignment, remove the liner gradually and press the strip down without pulling it into shape. Short pieces can be pressed by hand, while longer runs should be rolled with even pressure. Before wider use, test a small piece for 24-72 hours and check for trapped air, adhesive transfer, residue or weak edges.

Applications

  • HVAC access panel sealing where quick one-sided placement is required.
  • Electrical cabinet doors and enclosure gaps needing compressible EPDM strip sealing.
  • Metal frame joints, inspection covers and equipment panel edges.
  • Vehicle body sealing support, anti-rattle cushioning and controlled gap filling.
  • Glass, painted metal or rigid ABS and PC housings after surface cleaning and adhesion testing.
  • Industrial assembly lines needing peel-off liner EPDM tape for repeatable manual work.

What surfaces should be checked before applying one-sided EPDM self adhesive tape?

Before using a self adhesive EPDM strip, check whether the bonding surface is smooth, dry, stable and compatible with pressure sensitive adhesive. Clean metal, coated metal, glass and many rigid engineering plastics usually bond well after wiping and drying. Rough concrete, chalky paint, oily plastic, damp surfaces and low surface energy plastics may need primer, surface treatment or a different adhesive grade. Plasticized PVC, silicone-contaminated coatings and waxed surfaces should not be approved without a trial, because adhesive transfer or edge lifting may appear after dwell time. If the tape has already been pressed firmly, lifting it again may reduce clean contact, so repositioning should be limited to small adjustments before final pressure.

FAQ

Can EPDM Self Adhesive Tape be repositioned?

Only slightly before firm pressure. After pressing, lifting and reapplying may reduce adhesive contact.

Does the surface need cleaning before application?

Yes. Dust, oil, water and release agents can cause weak bonding or edge lifting.

How long should adhesion be checked?

A 24-72 hour observation is recommended before batch use or critical sealing work.

Is this tape for double-sided mounting?

No. It holds a compressible EPDM strip in place while the foam provides the seal.
